On September 21, 2017, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly released a selected list of universities and colleges that will participate in the country's construction plan of "Double First-Class" initiative. Political science at Tsinghua University was selected the national-level "Double First-Class" initiative. In recent years, political science at Tsinghua has been developing rapidly, under the leadership of Professor Yan Xuetong. It is committed to improving scientific research methods, internationalization, and creating new fields of research. Tsinghua has successfully held the World Peace Forum for 6 consecutive years and made significant influences both at home and abroad. Political science at Tsinghua is primarily based on the School of Social Sciences (Department of International Relations and Department of Political Science), and the Institute of International Relations, and has initiated at an early stage an approach characterized by Chinese humanity, global perspective and scientific methods for the discipline. In recent QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) world university rankings, Tsinghua University Politics & International Studies scored outstanding performance: in 2017, it is ranked the 35^thin the world and the 2^ndin mainland Chinese. Other universities with political science on the list include: Peking University, Fudan University, Renmin University of China, Huazhong Normal University and China Foreign Affairs University (self-decision).
