Delegation from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam Visits the Institute of International Relations at Tsinghua University

On the morning of November 25, 2025, Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn, President of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), and H.E. Hồ Kim Ngọc, former Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, led a delegation from DAV to visit the Institute of International Relations (TUIIR) at Tsinghua University.

The delegation was received by TUIIR representatives including Professors Sun Xuefeng and Qi Haixia, as well as Dr. Tang Xinhua, Dr. Zhou Jianren.

The two sides held a round-table discussion and exchanged views on a wide range of topics including the nature of China–U.S. relations, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Strategy, ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific, ASEAN’s regional role, and U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

Dr. Nguyễn Hùng Sơn and Professor Sun Xuefeng concurred that current China-U.S. relations should not be characterized as a “new Cold War,” nor do they parallel the pre–World War I rivalry between Britain and Germany. They emphasized that ASEAN is positioned to play an increasingly significant role in fostering regional and global stability—by sustaining a balanced posture toward both China and the United States while promoting its own distinct approaches to regional governance.
