Competition among Great Powers in the Digital Age

ABA61

In recent years, the rapid development of a new generation of science and technology, represented by digital technology, has had a huge impact on many fields and at many levels.

At the same time, the contrast of international power has been profoundly adjusted, unilateralism, protectionism, hegemonism and power politics have risen as threats to world peace and development, anti-globalisation thinking has grown, and the world has entered a period of turbulent change.

Numerous hot events in recent years have shown that international relations between the major powers have taken on a new situation, which has brought higher demands on diplomacy and at the same time become a hot topic for research in the field of international relations.

The new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial change is driving profound changes in production methods, social structures and lifestyles, increasingly reshaping the world's political and economic landscape and changing the contrast of national power.

In the midst of this change, challenges and opportunities coexist. It is important for us to understand China and the world by understanding the deep-seated reasons for the changes in the competition between major powers in the digital era and by considering how China can seize the opportunities and meet the challenges in the midst of the unprecedented changes of the century.

It is through soaring over the mighty ocean that the real hero’s figures are shown.

In foreign relations, how may China paint the most magnificent picture on the undertones of the digital age?

In the 50th edition of the Western Class Forum, we are honoured to invite Professor Yan Xuetong, Director of Tsinghua University's Institute of International Relations, who will introduce the challenges and great power role faced by China's rise in the new era in the light of the current complex and changing international situation, in order to strengthen our conviction and clarify our direction for the way forward.
