Invitation to the 15th Academic Community Conference on Political Science and International Relations

Dear experts, scholars, organizers, and academic colleagues,

Greetings from Institute of International Relations,Tsinghua University!

The 15th Annual Conference of the Academic Community on Political Science and International Relations will be held from July 5 to June 6, 2022, with the theme of "Turbulence and Adjustment of the International Security System". This year's conference is organized by the Institute of International Relations of Tsinghua University and aims to build a platform for academic exchange and cooperation among academic colleagues.

The international security system today is undergoing a new round of turbulence and adjustment. Competition among major powers in the political, security, economic and scientific fields has intensified. Traditional security challenges are returning and escalating, and new security crises are emerging. The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Sino-US strategic rivalry, geopolitical frictions, the impact of the new epidemic shock, and the intertwined effects of the deglobalization situation and the restructuring of the global industrial chain are all major events and changing trends that have raised new research topics for the development of the discipline of political science and international relations. Against this backdrop, dissecting the new challenges facing great power competition and cooperation, exploring the uncertainties of security and diplomatic strategy adjustments in hotspot regions and countries, and looking into the key directions of governance of the global security system will provide new growth points for the discipline's knowledge production and theoretical innovation.

Since the first annual conference was held in 2008, the annual conference of Academic Community on Political Science and International Relations has received strong support and wide participation from academic colleagues. We look forward to your continued support for this year's conference, and to actively organized table discussions and seminars on the major theoretical and practical issues facing the discipline of political science and international relations, to exchange ideas and contribute wisdom.

The World Peace Forum, hosted by Tsinghua University, will be held on 3-4 July at Liaoning Mansions. The organizers invite colleagues attending the Community Annual Conference to participate in the open academic organizers program during the World Peace Forum, as well as the Community Annual Conference Dinner and Keynote Forum on the 6th. Please indicate in the registration form if you are interested in participating in these events.

The conference organizers determine in mid-June whether the annual conference will be held online or a combination of online and offline, depending on the epidemic prevention and control policy and needs.

I. Format of the Conference

The conference features roundtable forums, symposia, Ph.D. workshops, and publication presentations.

Format I

1. Roundtable Forum aims to provide a stage for renowned experts and researchers in academia to clash their ideas. Experts and scholars from relevant fields and government staff or other relevant practitioners will be organized to comment on and outlook on disciplinary development, and important theoretical or policy issues of concern.

Format II

2. A panel discussion aims to provide a platform for scholars who have already made preliminary research findings to exchange ideas. The panel will be chaired by an interested panelist who will submit an application organizing committee and will organize their peers in the relevant field to present papers and discuss them with participants during the conference.

Format III

3. Ph.D. Workshops, aim to provide Ph.D.students with guidance on topic selection or suggestions for improving their research design. The organizing committee will arrange for experts to guide Ph.D. students based on their topic submissions or research designs.

Format IV

4.Publication Showcase, where academic journals and publishers provide an online showcase platform to communicate with authors and promote the publication of academic journals and books.

Each workshop will normally have three to four speakers, with each presenter and speaker participating in no more than three workshops. To ensure the quality of the conference and facilitate the scheduling of the conference, the Secretariat reserves the right to review and screen applications.

II. Participation Arrangements

1. Scholars wishing to organize round-table forums and symposia should submit their applications to the Conference Secretariat by 15 June 2022, together with the names of moderators and speakers. For other participants, please register with the Conference Secretariat by 20 June.

2. Scholars interested in speaking at the conference can follow the newsletter updates issued by the Secretariat, contact the organizers of the relevant workshop groups, and submit their registration information after confirming the groups they will be speaking in.

3. Ph.D. students who register for the Ph.D. workshop should submit their registration information online (including name, unit, and thesis title) and send their thesis or presentation PPT to the Secretariat so that the Secretariat can arrange for reviewers.

4. The Secretariat will provide paper invitation letters for the participants. If you need one, please make a note of it when you register and collect it when you check in at the conference.

III. Costs

1. The conference secretariat will be responsible for providing meeting rooms and related logistic services during the conference.

2. Participants are responsible for their transportation and accommodation costs to and from the conference.

V. Registration method
